Brass materials are widely used for many different applications due to its overwhelming strength and durability as well as superb machinability. However, its weakness was the high “sensitivity for stress corrosion crack”. Especially, the “sensitivity for stress corrosion crack” was critical for products such as a nut which will be exposed to a continuous distressing condition. With this type of concern, the hot forming was considered as only way to produce a brass nut with less concern for the “sensitivity for stress corrosion crack”. At the same time, the cost for hot forming process was an issue. The βshrink is the material that solved this very problem.
